This is Dudley Observatory’s Skywatch Line for Monday and Tuesday, December 1 and 2, 2025, written by Alan French.
The Sun rises at 7:06 A.M. on Monday and sets at 4:24 P.M. On Tuesday it rises at 7:08 A.M. and sets at 4:23 P.M.
The Moon was at first quarter early last Friday and is now moving toward full. On Monday the Moon rises at 1:52 P.M. Look for a waxing gibbous Moon, 87% in sunlight, 33 degrees above the east-southeastern horizon at 5 P.M. It will be south at 8:54 P.M. and set at 4:13 A.M. Tuesday.
The Moon rises again at 2:20 P.M. Tuesday in the east northeast. By 5 P.M. it will be 27 degrees above the eastern horizon. Its visible face will be 94% in sunlight and it will transit at 9:51 P.M. The Moon will set at 5:36 A.M. Wednesday. The Moon will reach full on Thursday at 6:15 P.M.
There is a fine pass of the International Space Station late Monday afternoon, when it will pass high across our skies and reach magnitude -3.8.
Look for the ISS coming up from the west northwestern horizon at 5:02 P.M. Monday. At 5:03 it will be 43 degrees high and brighter than any stars. It will then pass well north of Vega. After passing north of Deneb the ISS will reach its maximum altitude, essentially overhead (85 degrees above the north-northeastern horizon). Its path will then take it down through the corner of the Great Square of Pegasus closest to Andromeda and then south of the Moon and down to the southeastern horizon.
